Presence Of Mind — A Rare Gift
`Everything’ is in the `present’.
Being with the `present’ is life, and, the sign of ``being’’ is the movement or action.
Man is superior to all other creatures on the earth.
What distinguishes man from animals is the superior quality of the brain that he has.
His sense of understanding and the spontaneity with which he acts often saves life and property.
Man is the most blessed form of life on the universe.
He has the ability to think and act differently in different situations.
It is the ability to think and act sensibly and quickly without being succumbed to the (difficult/dangerous) situation is what we call the presence of mind.
With the presence of mind, man can avoid and avert even the unavoidable!
Lack of presence of mind invites miseries and worries.
``Had it not been for the presence of mind displayed by an Anganwadi employee, by name Manitadevi, the ``dead child’’ (born to a woman named Manisha Singh Munda, of Urmal village in Jharkhand, India, on July 27th) would not have come back to life again’’.
``The newly born child showed no sign of any life at all. Assuming that the child is dead, the villagers were about to bury the ``dead child’’ in the presence of her mother. Then, suddenly, there came a lady who snatched away the child by force and started giving it artificial respiration. Soon, the child became alive!”
Animals too have the ability to feel and act differently.
Last week, in a forest in Bengaluru, India, what the nearby villagers and the forest staff had witnessed was an emotional scene. An elephant was seen licking the body of a baby elephant which died sometime early in the morning. The villagers alerted the forest staff about it. Later, on reaching the spot, they saw a herd of elephants have joined the grieving mother to mourn the death of the little one! They stood there in gripping silence, for a long time, expressing their sympathy with the grieving mother. The forest staff could do nothing but to wait until dark for the animals to return to the forest, after which they could carry out the proceedings on the dead calf.
Presence of mind is a rare gift from the creator!
