Eleven Commandments to unlock your potential during quarantine (also make it lucky for you & your family)

They say “age is just a number.”

True! Age is just a number — a number which can still get you a bumper if your thoughts are positive. Age doesn’t hamper the chances of a bumper when the mind is calm and positive.

Positive thoughts have the power to transform.

My friend David had “COVID”.

Thank God! The early-stage symptom turned out to be something else. It was just a normal cold according to his Doctor. Yet, things were not normal for David. Something else started worrying him. It was the lockdown — a situation he never experienced in his life so far.

His children, at the same time, were enjoying the presence of their loving ‘D..a..a..dd..y’ at home all throughout the day, as said by his wife when she happened to meet my wife in the nearby supermarket.

They could easily identity each other even though they were wearing the blue safety mask and maintaining the social distancing protocol at a time when the meeting was happening after a long time.

At the super market, by the time their turn came, the shelves were almost empty but their mind was full with the happiness of having met and spent some time with a long time friend after a long gap of time. Another point of happiness for the ladies was that no invitation for a house visit was to be done due to the social distancing being in force.

For David; being tied down within the walls of house, he felt his bones and nerves were becoming more and more stiffer, throat sore, his ankles and joints dry and creaky. Altogether a dull and devastating feeling, a feeling of having pushed down to the bottom. And that was evident during one of our conversation held about two weeks before.

Boredom into freedom

Generally, I am not the one who jumps out to give an unsolicited advice to anyone on any thing of importance. In this case, however, knowing him closely for many years, I thought of suggesting somethings that can pull him out from his present mental status.

What happened subsequent to that was amazingly surprising. During my next telephone conversation with him after a gap of about two weeks time, he was sounding excited, energised and happy too — a magical changeover!

This time he was happy to talk about his family, and how busy he was at home enjoying the free lockdown time with his wife and children. And this time we spoke for a longer time.

Any idea what turned his boredom into freedom and enjoyment at home?

Well! He did not do any thing very big but some really simple things which made a big difference.

If you are someone like my friend David finding difficult to beat down the lockdown, here is a piece of suggestion, an unsolicited suggestion, which is worth trying out.

“Unlock your lockdown time to make it lucky for you and your family.”

Tough times call for tough actions.

Lockdown is an event happening in an abnormal and grave situation. At times, it is quite unpredictable and pre-planned. A lockdown is enforced to have control over the grave situation. It calls for some calculated and careful action. Action that will beat down the tough time. If done sincerely, it will take us to the other side of life where Lillies blossom everyday.

We didn’t learn from the past: the great depression, the flood, the wild fire, the Spanish flue and many more.

It is said there is a reaction for every action. And for every act of greed and destruction on the ground, there is a destructive action from the Heaven. The ratio and gravity of it is unquestionable. Perhaps, these heavenly reactions may be act of balancing, balancing the universe.

The sorrow, fear and agony being experienced on the planet could be reaction from the Creator over some of our actions. It is time to change, time to change our thoughts, it is time to change our action.

The best possible thing that could be done is to pay our respectful homage to the unlucky ones who had to make an early exit from the earthly life, and, pray and protect the lives of those who remain on the earth.

Thoughts and actions

Our everyday life is the total sum of our thoughts and actions. Positive are our thoughts positive are our actions. Positive are our actions positive are the results.

If there is only one thing needed to be done to make life better, wha it could be?
It would be nothing but change the way we think and act. Know the purpose of life. Re-invent and re-programme life.

  1. If there is only one attitude that can change the life for better. That is the Attitude of Acceptance.

2. If there is only one skill that can bring in the desired change, it is the people skill.

Sit down quietly at one place and do a self analysis to find out what life has offered to you so far.

This will enable you identify certain areas in your day to day life where certain changes and improvements are necessary.

When we think and act cautiously with the purpose of changing life for better, living becomes an enjoyable experience.

So, here are the action tips:

The Eleven Commandments to unlock your potential.

Commandment No One :
Stop criticising and Start Appreciating People.
Habit of criticism is an age-old evil with devastating powers. It creeps in and eats up one’s personal, social and public life.

Commandment No. Two:
Accept people as they are.
Look around and you will find every human life is of the same shape and created with the same intention. They may look differently and act differently. Life becomes easy by understanding and accepting them as they are.

Commandment No. Three:
Kill your anger.
Anger is an emotional act of destruction. It is one’s worst enemy. Stop being angry, replace your anger with smile and compassion.

Commandment No. Four:
Manage your money.
Spend your money cautiously and purposefully. Have more money than what you need.
You feel secured and happy having more money. Money can get you most of the things but not everything.

Commandment No. Five:
Maintain Good Health.
Health was wealth. Health is wealth. And health will be wealth. With health, you can have everything in life. With health, life is a tasty pastry. Without good health, life could be a misery.
A healthy mind and body work sharper and faster.

Commandment No. Six:
Love and respect everyone.
With love and care, life is a beautiful garden. Without love and care, life is a burden.
Love and respect your spouse, your children, your parents, your neighbours, and respect everyone around you, especially the elders. Let no one put salt on your wounds. Give no one the undeserved respect.

Commandment No. Seven:
Live fearlessly.
Fear nothing, fear no one except God, fear his reactions over your action. Do your duties well, in time.

Commandment No. Eight:
Ego.
Ego is good, ego is bad. Use your ego to protect your rights and self-respect. Compromise on your ego only for the sake of peace and harmony but not at the cost of your rights and self-esteem.

Commandment No. Nine:
Be Grateful.
Have an attitude of gratitude. Be grateful to all the big and small deeds done by others, and reciprocate in the same way in time of need. Get rid of your greed.

Commandment No. Ten:
Share and Care.
Share your happiness and sorrow, share your memories, care your self, care all the near and dear ones. Sharing is caring. When you share, you are cared.

Commandment No. Eleven:
Spent Time Together.
Come out with new ideas, try it out together at home’ for home is the best place to learn and practice, eat together, chat together, have fun together, and laugh together but do not laugh at anyone. For today, it is someone else, tomorrow it can be you and me.

When you experience the never-expected, try and explore the unexplored. Think differently to act differently.

Try it out. It costs nothing.
